Walking Ghost Tour London.

Working and living in London means that we sometimes don't get the chance to enjoy the sights this wonderful city has to offer.

So here at Single Girl World, we like to take days out to explore parts of London we haven't seen before.

If you follow us on Twitter you will have seen us tweeting about our day out recently. If you don't follow us then shame on you - you really should!

Our day out involved lots of fun things for an up and coming SGW project! While we were out we stumbled upon a walking tour. (Well I say stumbled upon, but really we tweeted about it and people told us which one to pick.)
We went on the "Ghost Tour" with the Big Bus Tour Company! For £5 we had a 2 hour tour including a stop off at the pub (woo hoo!!!) and boy, oh boy was it fun!

Our tour guide Jessie was so funny, entertaining us all with his BRILLIANT storytelling and great research! His passion really shone through.

Jessie started our tour outside Oceanic House (the sight where people bought their tickets for the Titanic) and he ended it at Fleet Street, the supposed site of Sweeney Todd's Barber Shop. Being at the site of the Barber Shop lead to us singing "The Worst Pie's in London....." in the style of Imelda Staunton. Must point out this isn't part of the tour we just like singing!

Other things we learnt were that Anne Boleyn haunts two places in London, David Tennant once acted with a real human skull in his hand (YUCK!), the Theatre Royal Drury Lane is FULL TO THE BRIM WITH GHOSTS!

The walking tour was well worth the money, if you already had tickets for the bus tour then the walk was free.
It is great for all ages, as Jessie tells the stories in a way that is engaging for adults and children!

We got our tickets from Trafalgar Square, near the National Gallery "Sainsbury Wing".

Check it out if you're in town!

Next on our "London Day Out Wish List" is Small Car Big City and the Ghost Bus Tour.

We hope you enjoy as much as we did!!

Love
The SGW Team!

Help your Kids beat Summer Holiday Boredom.

Summer is here (kind of) and so are the little calls of "Mum, I'm bored!". Here at Single Girl World we are going to be posting crafting ideas for your little ones to try and for you to try with them too if you like!
With 4 years of experience in Playwork (running clubs for 70+ children at a time!!) J has a LOT of ideas for arts and crafts, games and fun things to do that will keep your children entertained for the rest of the summer.
We will be posting some of the best ideas on our blog with step by step guides to make sure you and your little ones enjoy getting creative!

They are cheap and effective ideas, we can't promise they will be mess free, but if the sun is shining then it's the perfect excuse to take the mess outside!

We hope you enjoy them as much as your children!

The first one is pretty simple...

DEN MAKING! You will need: Some sheets/ blankets, possibly some cushions and pegs and lots of imagination!!

I would do a step by step picture guide but it's better to just use your imagination (plus my flat mates would think I was crazy if I made a den in our living room!)

It's time to look through your cupboards and find all the sheets that you don't need/ use anymore and give them to your children. Supplying your children and their friends with blankets and sheets means that they won't start pulling their duvets down the stairs to make a den!

The best thing about Den making is that it's accesible to all children, and is a team activity getting them working together to make themselves a cool hangout for the day. The Second best thing is that they can pack it away at the end of the day and start all over again!

If it's a sunny day then den making in the Garden is a perfect way to get the kids from under your feet for five, if not this activity can take place indoors with minimum fuss!

Simply allow your children's (and your) imagination to run free, sometimes the best dens are the simple ones so start by putting a couple of sheets over a table and making a cosy den underneath.

The most fun can be had by decorating the den, think cushions and blankets to make it comfy and some decorations (try making a paper chain) inside, and a little sign outside!

Dens are a perfect place for children to chat and laugh, they are also really cosy places for story time for you and your little ones. We used to have story time and joke time in dens, the children LOVED IT!

Have fun!!!

More Boredom Busters Coming soon!!!

A new Bag!

I don't know about you, but I HATE carrying bags sometimes. Like literally hate it, my shoulder starts to ache and I can never find a bag that just sits nicely on my shoulder. Even my trusty over the shoulder bag has annoyed me in the summer heat.
What I need from a bag in the summer is something big enough to carry all my summer essentials (water, suncream, sunglasses) and comfy enough to have with me all day. So I have taken to the high street to find a cool backpack, I know a backpack isn't everyone's idea of cool but I think it's the perfect bag to take on a day out. Whether it's at the park or the beach! Here are my best finds!

null (Multi Col) Aztec Patterned Back Pack | 245425199 | New Look
New Look - £19.99
I love this Aztec print bag, it's perfect for brightening up your outfit!
Washed Leather Look Rucksack In Tan
Matalan - £12
Bargain price and just as pretty!
Accessorize - £35
I love the pink spots on this one, and the little pockets at the front are great extra compartments!

River Island - £30
So this one looks a little bit like a Gillet, but I like it anyway!!!! The colours will carry you through to Autumn too!

 Acid Wash Backpack With Trim

Topshop - £34
I love this denim bag!!! My use of exclamation marks proves it!

All the bags shown can be found on line at the shops I have mentioned.
The best bit about the backpack is they are useful whatever the weather!!!
