SGW: The Running Challenge.

Hello you lovely lot, 

First we have something to confess, we don't like running! There we said it. No big deal we hear you say - there are other forms of exercise. Well this is true, the only problem is we have decided to undertake a "Running Challenge"!  We know what you're thinking - that it's a stupid idea if you don't like running. The problem is we love a challenge and after watching all the people at the London Marathon we thought what better challenge than training to run a marathon. 

It's also a great way to get fit and loose a few pounds, it takes all the focus off weight loss and onto running a REALLY LONG DISTANCE. We've never run anything further than 5k so are starting early with the training to help ourselves out. 

Over the next few months we will be blogging/ instagramming/ youtubing and tweeting (we just made up way too many words we do apologise) our journey for your entertainment... Let's face it most of the videos and pictures will feature us out of breath looking bright red - glamorous runners we are not! 

We would appreciate any advice/ help or tips anyone could give us.... We are absolute Novices so advice is needed on everything from best ways to train, to blisters and things to eat to the best trainers to get! 

For now we are trying to avoid wearing lycra (why do all runners wear lycra) and try and keep some of our dignity as we huff and puff our way around London's parks!

My Sun come out to play....

 

As you can see I've had enough of the cold, I love winter really I do but I REALLY need a bit of sun now please!

 

Does anyone feel the same? I worked out yesterday that I've not been on holiday in 5 years!

This year I am definately changing that... SGW is going on holiday! Anyone have any ideas as to where we should go?!

Help your Kids beat Summer Holiday Boredom.

Summer is here (kind of) and so are the little calls of "Mum, I'm bored!". Here at Single Girl World we are going to be posting crafting ideas for your little ones to try and for you to try with them too if you like!
With 4 years of experience in Playwork (running clubs for 70+ children at a time!!) J has a LOT of ideas for arts and crafts, games and fun things to do that will keep your children entertained for the rest of the summer.
We will be posting some of the best ideas on our blog with step by step guides to make sure you and your little ones enjoy getting creative!

They are cheap and effective ideas, we can't promise they will be mess free, but if the sun is shining then it's the perfect excuse to take the mess outside!

We hope you enjoy them as much as your children!

The first one is pretty simple...

DEN MAKING! You will need: Some sheets/ blankets, possibly some cushions and pegs and lots of imagination!!

I would do a step by step picture guide but it's better to just use your imagination (plus my flat mates would think I was crazy if I made a den in our living room!)

It's time to look through your cupboards and find all the sheets that you don't need/ use anymore and give them to your children. Supplying your children and their friends with blankets and sheets means that they won't start pulling their duvets down the stairs to make a den!

The best thing about Den making is that it's accesible to all children, and is a team activity getting them working together to make themselves a cool hangout for the day. The Second best thing is that they can pack it away at the end of the day and start all over again!

If it's a sunny day then den making in the Garden is a perfect way to get the kids from under your feet for five, if not this activity can take place indoors with minimum fuss!

Simply allow your children's (and your) imagination to run free, sometimes the best dens are the simple ones so start by putting a couple of sheets over a table and making a cosy den underneath.

The most fun can be had by decorating the den, think cushions and blankets to make it comfy and some decorations (try making a paper chain) inside, and a little sign outside!

Dens are a perfect place for children to chat and laugh, they are also really cosy places for story time for you and your little ones. We used to have story time and joke time in dens, the children LOVED IT!

A little weekend away .......

Last weekend my family and I took a little trip to the Norfolk Broads!
I spend all my time in the City, so sometimes it's nice to escape to the countryside !!
A couple of hours away from home and I had turned into a country gal !
It's a beautiful drive if you have a car, if not it cost me £8 one way on the train to Great Yarmouth!



With the beautiful scenic views of places like Potter Heigham and untouched beaches at Winterton on Sea and Sea Palling, it's England at its best !

It is lovely if you are blessed with a sunny day, however if it rains, there's enough to do (especially shopping!) in Great Yarmouth.
There's loads of hotels, B+Bs, Caravan and Camping sites, so something to suit everyone at affordable prices !!!


If you can't get abroad this summer then a cheeky weekend away in Britain will do the trick !! Perfect family time or a lovely trip away with friends !!

Whatever the weather....

So, that's it! I have finally come to terms with the fact that this summer is going to be a washout of weird weather. Rain, then sun, then rain, then sun..... (you all get the idea.) I've taken to carrying round an item for all seasons, flip flops, cardigan, brolly (my bag is seriously heavy).

The Big Rooftop Tea and Golf Party @ Selfridges.

Big Ben, The gherkin and Nelson's Column in under 30 minutes, no it's not some Crazy fast tour of the city. It is of course Crazy Golf on Selfridges Roof.

For just £6 you can enjoy a nine hole course of Crazy Golf created by Bompas and Parr. You go up to the roof in the Express Lift situated in the Fragrance Hall (you might have to wait for a while to go in the lift).
You collect your golf clubs and golf ball (you get to choose the colour) from the kiosk and also get a score card that smells of Bakewell Tarts, from there you walk passed Daylesford Cafe (definitely recommend stopping there on the way back their Brownies are amazing and the wine is delicious!) and arrive at the start of the course.

The course is incredible, I'm pretty competitive so playing against my little brother meant that I just had to win (I didn't I ended up losing!!!)
